Barbie, the most awaited movie of 2023, is getting closer and closer, and with it, the moment when we’ll discover what seems to be the craziest movie of the summer. Greta Gerwig has set out to continue to feed the expectations until its release, and so far it can’t be going better.

The latest move has been from its protagonist, Margot Robbie, who has not hesitated to continue talking about details about the film in her most recent interview.

Not only have we already seen the new song of Dua Lipa, ‘Dance the Night’ in the film -in which she will play a mermaid, something very fashionable lately-, but we also have more and more information about how the film has been forged. Of course, the official detailed plot of the movie is still a mystery, although we know that it’ll have to do with how the iconic doll has to deal with real-world problems away from Barbieland.

However, Robbie had no problem talking in her Vogue interview about how she’s been completely dedicated to the film, showing off her work in production duties as well.

In addition to starring, she has made decisions through LuckyCharp -producer she founded in 2014 along with other names in the industry-, so the film will have much more than her performance, something that already happened in other titles such as ‘I, Tonya’ or ‘Harley Queen: Birds of Prey’, DC’s most colorful villain crossover.

This role was seen during the casting process, where both the director and she were looking for «Barbie’s energy» in the actresses. Beyond those already confirmed, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, the aforementioned Dua Lipa, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Alexandra Shipp and Kate McKinnon, among others; the possibility of Gal Gadot being in the film was also tantalized.

Robbie on Galdot Refusing Playing Barbie

According to Robbie, the Wonder Woman actress had all the essence they were looking for. “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork», she comments. In any case, Gadot wasn’t available during the period required to shoot the film.

Ultimately, the fellow Fast & Furious actress couldn’t be in the film for scheduling reasons, though that doesn’t mean Gerwig and Robbie cut their ambition short. They have been joined by a gigantic cast of Barbies and Kens that promise to nurture gags and plots of what is already one of the most anticipated films of the year, either by expectations or by what is already known about it.

Barbie will be released on July 21, 2023.
