The Barbie movie has become one of the most anticipated pop events of 2023. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the film directed by Greta Gerwing promises to give a twist to the story of the most famous doll of all time. The best part is that this long-awaited release, which promises to be one of the summer hits, has expanded its universe to other places.
In addition to bringing a whole collection of dolls as merchandise, it also comes with a soundtrack inspired by the movie that resembles the Coachella lineup. Full of stars! From Dua Lipa to Ice Spice and even our urban queen Karol G herself. Two weeks ago, the British artist released the music video for ‘Dance The Night’ with several references to the doll. Now, finally, it’s Karol G’s turn. The song ‘Watati’, a collaboration with Aldo Ranks, has just released its official video. And it’s full of references to the famous doll! Here it is for you to watch:
Although the Colombian star released the song a few days ago – and we have had time to find out what “Watati” means – fans were missing a music video that delved into Barbie’s universe. And finally, we have it!
For the ‘Watati’ music video, Karol G has paid homage to some of Barbie’s most famous outfits, but with her own reinterpretation! For example, she wears the famous black and white swimsuit that the first Barbie doll was launched with, but with a touch of extra sparkle.
She also wears the astronaut suit (in pink, of course) that Barbie wore in 1985, but in a very cool way. Another look she doesn’t miss is the 90s roller skater. One of the most popular Barbie dolls.
Additionally, Karol G recreates some of the scenes we have seen in the movie trailer, like the moment Barbie ends up in the police station.
Without a doubt, with ‘Watati,’ Karol G and Aldo Ranks are going to take Barbie to new heights. And what a great song it is!
