Juan Gabriel left an indelible mark on the music industry, and his songs remain cherished classics within the Latin community. His untimely passing on August 28, 2016, marked the end of an era, yet his music endures as a timeless tribute to his extraordinary talent and enduring legacy.
As a testament to his enduring influence, a posthumous album featuring 24 original and previously unreleased songs, titled México Con Escalas En Mi Corazón (Ciudades), is set to be released on October 5th under Virgin Music label. This album is a heartfelt dedication to the beloved places in his homeland, Mexico, which held a special place in his heart.
On the album cover, Juan Gabriel is portrayed wearing a pink pilot’s suit, with an airplane displaying his name behind him in letters of the same color. This choice was not random, as the record label Virgin Music also revealed that, as a part of the album’s launch, the artist’s family collaborated with a Mexican airline to adorn one of their aircraft with Juan Gabriel’s face on the tail of the plane. This plane took its first flight on September 14th, and will remain in operation throughout the year.

A similar story occurred with Jenni Rivera and her posthumous album Misión Cumplida. This will also be Juan Gabriel’s first of this kind release since his passing. According to Rolling Stone, the project was conceived and recorded between 2014 and 2016, initially as a way for Juan Gabriel to dedicate a song to each city where he performed. The unreleased material was discovered by the artist’s only son, Iván Gabriel Aguilera, who was unaware of the existence of these songs.
The love and pride my dad had for his beloved Mexico were something that was always felt not only in his shows but in every moment of his life” –Aguilera commented.
