It’s no secret that The Rolling Stones are preparing something big. Last week, an updated version of their iconic logo, the tongue designed by art student John Pasche in 1971, was projected in the center of major cities worldwide. There was talk of a new album, the first with original songs since «Bigger Bang,» released in 2005. In other words, the first from the band in 18 years.
The creators of some of the greatest rock songs of all time are returning with new material this September, and they’ve teased it with the release of a new song: «Don’t Get Angry With Me,» through the website of the same name: dontgetangrywithme.com. This teaser comes shortly after part of the song was leaked. Regardless, the new era of The Rolling Stones is here, and this song is proof of that.
It’s just a few seconds. The makers of «Paint it, Black» wanted to leave us wanting more, but the excerpt they shared is enough to let us know that something very important is coming. When you access the site and hit ‘play,’ the first thing you hear is the drums, soon joined by a powerful guitar riff with the unmistakable Stones signature. Shortly after, Mick Jagger’s distinctive voice comes in to confirm that we’re dealing with a potential hit from the band.
There are still many unknowns about the album, although the title did leak: Hackney Diamonds. The story behind it’s quite cool. The British music press picked up on this album’s possible title due to a mysterious ad that appeared in the local Hackney Gazette newspaper. Next to the title, you could read: «glass repair specialists.»
The creators of the ad left some clues pointing to The Rolling Stones. One was replacing the dot above the «i» in «Diamonds» with the small tongue logo. Another was mentioning some of their greatest hits, songs like «(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,» «Gimme Shelter,» and «Shattered.» The ad read, «Our team promises you ‘satisfaction.’ When you say ‘give me shelter,’ we’ll fix your broken windows.» It also mentioned an «opening in September,» another clue.
If you visited the official site at hackneydiamonds.com, you could see that it was under construction, with a simple welcome message. Today, the band finally confirmed all these suspicions.
This very Monday, The Rolling Stones made a significant announcement: there’s a new album, new music, and a new era. It will be the first album without their drummer, Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 80, and ever since the news broke, he has been on the minds of many fans.
For this important announcement, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ron Wood’s band has enlisted the one and only Jimmy Fallon, one of the most well-known comedians and communicators in the world. It will be precisely a live conversation format that Fallon will host, taking place in London on Wednesday, September 6th, at 2:30 PM (UK local time, 9.30 a.m. E.T)
This live chat can be followed worldwide thanks to its streaming broadcast on the band’s official YouTube channel.
