Ed Sheeran Sets the Internet on Fire After Sudden Concert Cancellation: «I’m Devastated»

He was supposed to perform in Las Vegas but the show was canceled at the last minute

I can’t believe I’m typing this, but there’s been some challenges encountered during the load in of our Vegas show. It’s impossible to go forward with the show. I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled in for this, and I wish I could change it. The gig will be postponed to Saturday, October 28th, and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date. I’m so sorry x.»

With these words, Ed Sheeran announced through social media the cancellation of his Las Vegas concert this weekend. Many of his fans understood that what happened was beyond the singer’s control, but many others criticized him, complaining that the cancellation occurred as they were already entering the venue.

All these criticisms have forced the singer to continue providing explanations.

What Happened?

Ed Sheeran hasn’t gone through the last few years of his life -as he recently explained after the launch of his fifth album, Subtrack– and this sad news will not have made it any better. The online outcry has prompted the British singer to provide further explanations.

It’s not something common on his tours. Cancelling was an exception, and he hasn’t taken it very well.

«A little bit more context on the cancellation yesterday. It was a safety issue, and we really tried to do the best we could to make the show happen but I’m not gonna risk the safety of my fans for anything. I really am gutted, this was very much out of my control but I do take full responsibility for everyone that was put out from the cancellation.

Of course refunds are available at point of purchase, and there is a rescheduled show October the 28th if people still want to come, I promise it will be special. Nothing will take away from the effort people went to to get to Vegas though and I’m sorry it wasn’t communicated sooner to the people waiting outside.

We really thought the show was going to happen up until the very last moment but it just couldn’t for safety reasons. Sorry again to everyone affected, and hopefully see you in October x»Ed Sheeran via Instagram

Furthermore, the artist provided more specific context about the technical issues that caused the concert cancellation.

And although he has continued to receive complaints from all those who had to cover a trip that turned out to be in vain, the truth is that many of his fans have come to his defense and are clear that the cancellation was a last resort and certainly not something under his control. Many are already looking forward to October to see him.
