Dua Lipa has a challenging task at hand: releasing a third album that lives up to Future Nostalgia. The British artist can boast of having one of the most listened to and acclaimed albums of the past decade. Her second studio album survived the pandemic, becoming one of the most-played soundtracks for music enthusiasts. Three years later, Dua Lipa has a new project ready, and it seems like it’s going to generate a lot of buzz once again.

Just a few weeks ago, Mark Ronson, the renowned music producer, shared his experience listening to the album. «I heard something and it’s incredible. I think that’s why the disco ball ended up shattered into a thousand pieces in the video, right? It was like a triumphant exclamation point that closed that era of her music and opened up whatever she’s going to do next,» Mark Ronson explained a few weeks ago.

Now, Dua Lipa has revealed new details about this highly anticipated third album. She did so in an interview with The New York Times, where she discussed the sound of the upcoming album. While confirming that the next album will still be pop, she mentioned that it will have a sound less influenced by the disco and house rhythms of Future Nostalgia. And how will it sound? She is leaning towards a more psychedelic sound from the 70s.

In the same interview, Dua Lipa expresses her excitement about this new musical phase. However, she has no idea how her fans will react when they hear it. This uncertainty makes her a bit nervous.

It’s true that after wrapping up her world tour last November, Dua Lipa has been in London focusing on creating this new album. Yet, she has also taken the opportunity to work on other projects that are somewhat unrelated to music: from collaborating on her own fashion line with Versace to ventures as a model.

Her Most Personal Album

Dua Lipa also reveals that the «next album will be more personal.» This is something artists often say repeatedly when discussing a new project. However, in Dua Lipa’s case, it seems to hold true. In the same interview, the British star explains that she recently watched the documentary «How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,» a film that tells the story of the band Bee Gees.

The pop star states that she cried while watching the movie and found a quote that resonated with her: «Music that makes you feel good.» «Those are the songs I cling to. That’s the kind of feeling I want to convey,» the artist confirmed.
