«Amigos,» that’s what we thought Bad Bunny and J Balvin were since the release of their brilliant joint album, Oasis (2019). But as the Puerto Rican artist rightly says in the opening track of his latest album, «Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana» (Nobody Knows What Will Happen Tomorrow), «people have to stop thinking they know the lives of the famous.»
Benito himself dedicated some words to the Colombian artist in an interview on Alofoke Radio Show a year ago, giving us some clues about their relationship amid possible rumors of enmity. Let’s remember that Bad Bunny has also a good relationship with Residente, who has thrown a few «tiraeras» at Balvin.
«Do you want to know if I have a problem with Balvin? I don’t have a problem with Balvin. The other day I saw him, I greeted him… People think that… people don’t know anything! People see that I released an album with Balvin, took some photos, and think that in the mornings I wake up and say ‘good morning, my love, are you okay?’ No! My relationship remains the same. If he writes to me, I will answer him. If he needs something from me… I have no enmity with him,» revealed «el conejo malo.»
However, some lyrics from his latest album could indicate otherwise. In Bad Bunny’s collaboration with Eladio Carrión on «Thunder y Lighting,» he didn’t hold back, putting J Balvin squarely in the spotlight with his final lines:
«You’ve seen me, I’m always with the same ones / While you’re friends with everyone like Balvin,» sings the Puerto Rican artist. These words surprised his audience and even the artist himself, who, during an Instagram live, revealed that he didn’t understand the situation.
«I don’t understand what’s going on in his mind. But I know that the Bad Bunny I know is a good person. I was really surprised by that, but I wish him the best. More than being a great artist, he’s incredibly talented, and he’s a good person. I wish him the best with the album, may it be a hit,» declared Balvin.

Now, what does all this have to do with J Balvin’s new song, «Amigos»? Well, precisely the title he has chosen may have a lot to do with it. Just a few days after the discussed beef on social media following Benito’s latest release, Balvin changed some of the biographies on his accounts, taking advantage of the mentioned lyrics. «Human being with friends» is still his Twitter bio (X).
A few weeks later, we see that the Colombian artist has chosen «Amigos» for the release of his latest single. And although it is a song about heartbreak and does not include any possible reference to the Puerto Rican artist, the truth is that his way of promoting it seems to have been fueled by the controversy sparked by the alleged «diss.» After releasing the song, Balvin posted an image with some of his colleagues in the industry, where we can see Maluma, Justin Quiles, Young Miko, and Tainy, among others. «A couple of friends to celebrate all the love that ‘Amigos’ has received.»
