Rosalia and Rauw Alejandro never cease to amaze us. Since the couple announced the release of their three-song joint EP, ‘RR‘, they haven’t stopped making headlines.
The project, which was released on March 24, arrived with three new songs: ‘Beso‘, ‘Vampiros‘ and ‘Promesa‘. Each of them, as they revealed in an interview with Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, correspond to different stages in their relationship: past, present and future. Along with the release of the EP, the couple surprised with the announcement of their engagement, and it’s a very nice rock that Rosalia is wearing on her finger!
Now Rosalia and Rauw have once again surprised their fans with ‘Vampiros‘ music video. For the occasion, the two artists have opted for one of their favorite directors: Stillz, who has also directed videos like ‘La noche de anoche‘, ‘Candy‘ or ‘Yo perreo sola‘.
Shot in Barcelona, the videoclip is filled with details that you might have overlooked. But that’s why we’re here to tell you!
One of the most striking things is that, like real vampires, neither Rauw nor Rosalia are reflected in any mirror. In fact, the two artists enter a bar to continue their night party. A place full of mirrors. The curious thing is that at no time do we see them reflected.
An act that is totally on purpose. According to many legends and folktales, vampires have no reflection. Undoubtedly, a great detail!
Another element that has to do with vampire culture is garlic and, of course, it also appears in the video. As you may know, this vegetable was supposedly used to repel vampires and Rosalia herself appears at the end of the video clip playing with them. Literally playing with fire.
However, Rosalia and Rauw Alejandro are immune to it and also to another of the elements traditionally associated with vampire hunting: the crucifix. While Rauw wears one around his neck, Rosalia wears it as a top.
As you probably know, Rosalia was born in the Catalan province of Barcelona, Spain. Here is located the ‘Casa Corberó’, an architectural reference full of light that appears at the end of the music video. The nightmare of any vampire who does not want to be burned to death by sunlight. This house, full of arches, has been used for numerous fashion campaigns.
It is no coincidence that they have chosen this house -built by Xavier Corberó and where movies like the Oscar Award-winning ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona‘ have been filmed- to show us their transformation from humans in the day to vampires in the night.
When morning comes, they transform into Rosalia and Rauw, the two people who compose and we already know. Of course, this version of them can see the light and that’s why they live in a house where there are no barriers to keep it out. A fun way to end the video clip and that plays with reality. Now we can fantasize that the two artists are vampires at night.
This house, moreover, also takes us to the works of Escher, the Dutch artist who played with the spaces in his works. What’s more, it would not surprise us if Stillz, the director of the project, was inspired by him. He already did it to create the platform used by Rosalia and Bad Bunny in ‘La noche de anoche‘.
Much of the vampire myth has been developed through film productions. Thus, we can see references to some of the most famous films that deal with this genre. Without going any further, they both look like an updated version of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in 1994’s’Interview with the Vampire‘. Even the way the shots are filmed lead us to it.
In short, Rosalia and Rauw Alejandro have once again left no one indifferent after revolutionizing social platforms with another transgressive creation!
