Netflix recently released a documentary called Beckham, which chronicles the life journey of the former British footballer, David Beckham, from his humble beginnings to becoming not just a global football sensation but also a cultural icon. The documentary covers everything, including a major event from almost 20 years ago that created quite a media frenzy in the early 2000s: allegations of an affair with his former assistant, Rebecca Loos.

In response, Beckham has described these allegations as ‘horrible’ and has confessed that they took a toll on his well-being, making him and left him ‘feeling sick every day’. He has also expressed deep regret for witnessing his wife, Victoria Beckham, go through such a difficult time. However, Rebecca has expressed her dissatisfaction with the documentary and with Beckham himself. She believes he hasn’t taken responsibility for his actions and is painting himself as a victim.

“He can say whatever he likes of course and I understand he has an image to preserve, but he is portraying himself as the victim and he’s making me look like a liar, like I’ve made up these stories” Rebecca expressed her views on the matter in a video interview with the Daily Mail. “He is indirectly suggesting that I’m the one who has made Victoria suffer.”

David Beckham and Rebecca Loos crossed paths when she was recruited as his personal assistant following his transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid in Spain in 2003. This hiring was facilitated by SFX, the global management company that employed Rebecca.

Over time, they began exchanging text messages. As Rebecca later revealed, Beckham started sending her late-night messages, which eventually took on a more flirtatious naughty tone, according to The Daily Mail. Rebecca described this as ‘fun’ until one day she received a message from one of Beckham’s bodyguards, asking her, “Are you texting David right now?” The message continued, saying, “Stop. He’s showing them to his friends and they are all laughing”.

He had made me feel so special, but I never ever wanted him to leave his wife and get together with me… after learning what he was like I never wanted to be with somebody like that anyway.”

Rebecca revealed that she was deeply hurt by the situation, and that pain gradually led her to become more relaxed and less concerned about keeping such a significant secret for David Beckham, especially after the way she felt she was treated. In the midst of the rumors surrounding their relationship, Beckham made the decision not to renew his contract with SFX. Although she was offered a position in the London office, Rebecca explained that by that point, she had moved on from the sports industry.
