Christian Nodal Brings His Regional Mexicano at the Latin Grammy Week 2023 in Seville

We explore his journey to fame and some of his greatest accomplishments along the way

Christian Nodal, one of the most significant artists in the Regional Mexicano genre, is making waves at the Latin Grammys Awards 2023. This year’s awards ceremony is especially noteworthy as it’s the first time it’s being held outside of the United States, with Seville, Spain, serving as the host city.

Nominations

Nodal has been nominated in two categories, which adds to his already impressive music career. His first nomination is for ‘Best Ranchera/Mariachi Album’ for his work on Forajido EP2. Additionally, he’s received a nomination in the ‘Best Regional Mexican Song’ category for his collaboration with Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Kany García on the song «La Siguiente.»

In a heartwarming turn of events, the Mexican artist has already arrived in Seville, along with his newly born daughter from his current partner, Argentine artist Cazzu. In a touching moment shared by the singer, he can be seen getting off the plane while holding his baby girl gently in his arms, wrapped in a pink blanket. Early Years & Family 

Christian Jesús González Nodal was born on January 11, 1999, in Heroica Caborca, a town in the northwest of Sonora, Mexico. He is the oldest of three siblings. Nodal comes from a family of musicians, where they all either sing or play a musical instrument. His father even has his own record label called JG MUSIC, and his mother played a crucial role in Christian’s early music career. Additionally, one of his cousins, José Nodal Jiménez, is a member of his band and is the lead trumpeter. 

At the age of 13, he began composing songs. One of his early compositions is «Te Fallé,» a song he wrote for a girlfriend after an act of infidelity, according to El Financiero. He shared it on social media, not having any idea about the success that awaited him. In 2016, he signed with Fonovisa’s A&R department. After signing his record deal, he featured as a singer in the video for Los Plebes del Rancho’s popular song «No Pasa de Moda.» The video gained over 22 million views. 

Climbing the Ladder of Success 

In early 2017, he released his debut single, «Adiós Amor,» which achieved tremendous success in Mexico, Latin America, Spain, and the United States. In Mexico, it climbed to the second position on the Top Latin Songs chart, holding its position for more than 25 weeks. Currently, the music video on YouTube has an incredible 1,406,680,450 views. 

 

Afterward, Nodal released three more singles, among them «Probablemente» featuring David Bisbal. This track achieved a Top 20 position on the Mexican Regional Songs chart and secured a spot within the Top 40 on the Top Latin Songs chart. In August 2017, he unveiled his debut album Me Dejé Llevar, which not only claimed the top spot on the Mexican Regional Albums chart but also reached number two on the Top Latin Albums chart. 

In the same year, he received his first nominations at the 19th Latin Grammy Awards. He was nominated in the ‘Best Ranchera/Mariachi Album’ category and also as the ‘Best New Artist’ for his work on Me Dejé Llevar. Additionally, he secured a win in the ‘Best Regional Mexican Song’ category with his hit song «Probablemente  

Unstoppable Success 

In 2019, he released his second album, Ahora, which featured collaborations with artists like Juanes on «Tequila,» Sebastián Yatra on «Esta noche,» and Piso 21 on «Pa’ olvidarme de ella.» These songs blended urban and ranchera styles. Jessi Uribe also contributed two songs to the album, titled «El dolor con el licor» and «Juro por esta.» At the 20th Latin Grammy Awards, he got nominated for theBest Regional Mexican Songwith «De Los Besos Que Te Di,» but he won in that same category with the song «No Te Contaron Mal.» He also won theBest Ranchera/Mariachi Albumaward for «Ahora.» 

In April 2020, he unveiled the first part of his third album, Ayayay!, which included tracks like «Se me olvidó.» The single «Dime cómo quieres» achieved multi-platinum and diamond certifications. «Ayayay!» was the album’s title track, and it received gold status in both Mexico and the United States. At the 21th Latin Grammy Awards, he got nominated for theBest Regional Mexican Songwith «Ayayay!» and for ‘Best Ranchera/Mariachi Album.’

In February 2022, he released «Ya no somos ni seremos,» a highly successful single. In May of the same year, he dropped his EP «1 Forajido» which features on albums by Romeo Santos and Christina Aguilera. In May 2023, he’s back with the second part of the «Forajido» EP, featuring tracks like «Cazzualidades» (dedicated to his partner Cazzu) and «Un cumbión dolido.»
