Carin León, one of the biggest references of Regional Mexican music proved his singing talent covering the classical rock song ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ and Caifanes ‘La célula que explota’ along with Eden Muñoz.

Carín, (born Óscar Armando Díaz de León Huez) began his musical career as the lead vocalist of Grupo Arranke. Even though songs such as ‘A través del vaso’ were massive hits, in 2018, he decided to pursue a solo career that has resulted in a complete success ever since.

That same year, he released his first album Amanecida Con Todo Y Con Todos, and, in 2019, his second album El Malo, for which got nominated in Los Premios de la Radio for:

  • “Artista Masculino del Año”
  • “Grupo o Solista Sierreño del Año”
  • “Revelación del Año”
  • “Canción Sierreña del Año” for his song “Me la Aventé”

In 2022, he received his first Latin Grammy for ‘Como lo hice yo’, together with Edgar Barrera and Matisse. He has collaborated with many big names around Mexican Music, like Grupo Firme, Grupo Frontera, Banda MS, Camilo, Eden Muñoz and Adriel Favela, among many others.

Carin’s talent has never been in doubt, but we certainly weren’t expecting to hear him sing the iconic rock song ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, originally released in October 1981 by the American band Journey.

In the “Story Behind the Song” by Dave Paulson for The Tennessean, musician Jonathan Cain said that ‘Don’t Stop Believin» were words of encouragement from his father when he was younger and wasn’t sure he’d make it as a musician in Hollywood. The song gained popularity again in 2009 when it was covered by “Glee”. Here’s Carin’s version, what do you think?

At the same time, another video shows Eden Muñoz and Carin León partially singing the well-known «Caifanes» song. Even though this band is recognized for rock genre songs —and ‘La célula que explota’, first released in 1990, is considered one of the best Mexican rock songs, it incorporates instruments such as trumpets that kind of fits well with the new Regional Mexican Music, which has dared to combine elements and genres that probably wouldn’t have been as accepted in the past as they are today.

Hay veces que no tengo ganas de verte
Hay veces que no quiero ni tocarte
Hay veces que quisiera ahogarte en un grito
Y olvidarme de esa imagen tuya
Pero no me atrevo»

sang Eden.

Hay veces que no dejo de soñarte
De acariciarte hasta que ya no pueda
Hay veces que quisiera morir contigo
Y olvidarme de toda materia
Pero no me atrevo…»

—sang Carin

In the video we can hear both Eden and Carin’s powerful vocals and one of the most important elements for Regional Mexican Music: emotion. The lyrics are already emotional enough, but Eden and Carin delight us with this touching new version that we weren’t expecting, but that we totally needed to hear. What do you think?
