BRATTY, one of the Youngest Mexican Singers in the Independent Movement Talks to LOS40

BRATTY, Being only 22 years old, has already performed at two of the biggest and most important festivals in the United States (Coachella) and in Mexico (Vive Latino). The singer is currently one of the first youngest Mexican female artists to break through in the Mexican independent movement, and above all, in female adolescent melancholy.

Mexican artist Jennifer Abigail Juárez Vázquez was born on august 2, 2000 in Culiacán, Sinaloa. Bratty is the singer-songwriter’s bedroom pop/garage/surf project.

The musical project was born back in 2017, when Bratty was only 16 years old and she decided to go out and play in restaurants and places where musical events of the local scene were held. That same year she produced her first album in her bedroom. 

In March 2018, she released her debut EP with 5 songs and an interlude, titled Todo Está Cambiando. Shortly after her single Sobredosis De Tempra and the songs from this EP, managed to sneak into playlists, concerts and sound libraries all over the country, as well as outside of it. With Aquí she positioned herself on the playlist of the KEXP radio station in Seattle.

In 2019 with her collab Ropa de Bazar with Ed Maverick, reached over 38 million streams. 

Her first studio album was Delusión, conformed by 7 songs and a bonus track, and where her famous song Honey, No Estás was born.

Bratty was in LOS40 studio, in Ya Párate, and surprised with her new single These days. She recalled the emotions she felt when stepping onto two of the most important music stages, after her unexpected success.  

In the interview she talked about the importance of mental health and what it‘s like to be in the public eye, as well as impostor syndrome and intrusive thoughts we all face from time to time.

She mentioned that she never imagined herself as the artist she is today, partly due to being an introvert and a very quiet person. However, she did imagine herself involved in all aspects of musical production. Music serves as an escape for her, and she began sharing it because it’s what she truly enjoys doing. 

As kinda of a fun fact, most of her musical projects took place during the COVID pandemic. During this time, she witnessed her success through numbers and online engagement, but it felt surreal to see people genuinely enjoying her music during live performances. In fact, she even signed her record deal with Universal Music through a «zoom» meeting.
