Getting into character is a practice frequently observed among actors, and they employ various methods to achieve it. One of the most renowned techniques is the Stanislavski Method, commonly referred to as Method Acting, where actors immerse themselves profoundly into their roles.

Basically, actors try to feel what their characters feel, think their thoughts, and live their lives –all on a pretty deep level. The goal is to deliver performances on stage or screen that are genuinely authentic and realistic.

Extreme Dedication to Their Roles

Some actors are renowned for their extreme dedication to their roles. Mostly, they manage to create performances that are both unforgettable and genuine (without crossing into negative territory).

Let’s take Heath Ledger, for example, who went all in for his portrayal of the Joker in ‘The Dark Knight.’ He kept a diary in character and really got into the chaotic mindset, resulting in the creation of one of cinema’s most legendary villains.

Jared Leto had a similar encounter on the ‘Suicide Squad’ set while playing the Joker. Maybe the Joker is such a multi-layered character that even the actors themselves tend to get lost in his psychology.

Rumor has it that Leto totally embraced the character even off the set, sending strange and unsettling gifts to his castmates including our Barbie, Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn, such as live rats and bullets. Leto aimed to create an atmosphere of confusion, keeping everyone in a state of uncertainty, which contributed to the unpredictable and chaotic nature of his character.

Similarly, Daniel Day-Lewis, renowned for his dedication to this acting method, completely submerged himself in his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln for the movie ‘Lincoln.’ He went as far as adopting the speech patterns and mannerisms of the former president even when he wasn’t on set.

From Margot Robbie to Barbie

Margot is among the trending actresses, propelled by her role as Barbie. Ever since she graced the big screen, she hasn’t merely maintained her status; she’s firmly established herself as one of the most iconic actresses in recent years.

Her portrayal in Barbie was truly remarkable, as she seamlessly embodied her character as if it were an extension of herself which is precisely the goal of any skilled actor. However, she has adeptly utilized techniques to facilitate a stronger connection with her roles.

According to Teen Vogue, Margot said: “I decorated my trailer – I do this for all the characters I play now – but I went all out for this character of Barbie.” Talking specifics, she said there was: “pink stuff, fluffy stuff, things that make me happy. Things that are cute. Pictures of my friends, things like that, just so I’d be in a really happy, positive kind of mood.”

But she also divulged her true secret to becoming Barbie: perfume.

I had a Barbie perfume, so that’s always the final thing for my character…I think I relate to the smell associations, like scent memory is pretty strong for me, so as soon as I put the perfume on, I was like, ok, ready.»

Sadly, she didn’t disclose the specific perfume she utilized. However, Glamour UK took on the task of identifying perfumes that could perfectly capture the essence of pretty, pink scents, leaving behind a delightful Barbie-inspired trail.
