We could go on for hours listing the huge number of world stars who have passed through the most famous musical car of the last decade. The epic Carpool Karaoke bids farewell along with James Corden’s Late Late Show. But it goes out with a bang with one last protagonist: Adele.
In this last iconic episode, the British host couldn’t help but end up in tears as they reminisced about their story. A friendship that goes back in time and also left us a very emotional moment where Adele expressed the deep meaning behind one of her songs, which has a lot to do with Corden.
“This song is very special to both of us”, Adele says before ‘I Drink Wine’ starts playing in the car. According to the British singer, this song -which she considers is part of her better writing- was inspired by a conversation that she had had with James Corden, who, together with his wife Jules, has always been an important support for Adele. Especially after her divorce in 2019.
“We were on vacation with the kids and on our way home, my mood had changed. It was the first year that I felt I had to hold myself accountable for just being an adult whereas the year before that I left Simon and stuff like that and… you and Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me and Angelo…”, she says, while she and Corden start crying. Here Adele remembers a concrete moment in which she empathized with the host when he became insecure about his work. “I remember I told you ‘What’s wrong?’ You seemed down and you didn’t feel strong… I felt so unsafe with you feeling unsafe”, she adds.
The tears of Adele and James Corden make it clear that Carpool Karaoke has been something more for many artists who participated in the show. Not surprising considering that the most viewed videos surpassed 200 million views.
In addition to ‘I Drink Wine’, Adele and James Corden sang some of her most iconic songs, such as ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and ‘Love is a Game’. They also recalled some key moments in the history of this format that changed entertainment and the way artists promoted their songs.
Without a doubt, the British singer has been the queen of this format. And all despite Justin Bieber participating in more editions, her appearances have been the most iconic and viewed, and have already become part of the official farewell of the show.
BlackPink, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Chris Martin, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, BTS, Bad Bunny, Kanye West, Ed Sheeran, Celine Dion, Jonas Brothers, Camila Cabello, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Christina Aguilera, Harry Styles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Selena Gomez, Sia, Niall Horan, Lizzo, Meghan Trainor, Ariana Grande, Lil Nas X, Michael Bublé, Rod Stewart, Britney Spears, Jennifer López, Will Smith, Elton John, Nicki Minaj, Sam Smith, Migos, Barbra Streisand, Gwen Stefani, Billie Eilish, Sia, One Direction, Madonna, George Michael, Pink, Shawn Mendes, Take That, Michelle Obama… The list of stars is endless and brutal.
